We are avid PAX fans here at Hemptations and with me having owned the PAX 3 for the past 6 years I wanted to see if the new PAX Plus vapouriser stacks up to its predecessor. So I helped myself to a brand new PAX Plus in one of their slick new colourways – Elderberry.
This PAX Plus review is going to look at what’s inside the Box, features, loading the device, performance and the different modes that come with the PAX. Finally we’ll take a look at how the PAX Plus stacks up against the PAX 3 along with some tips to help get the most out of your PAX.
What’s inside the box?
In addition to the PAX Plus vapouriser unit, the box also contains a multitude of accessories to help you get the most out of your device.
- PAX Plus Vapouriser
- Charging Cable
- Maintenance Kit
- 2 Mouthpieces
- Half Pack Oven Lid
- Full Oven Lid
- 3x 3D Oven Screens
- Concentrate Insert
- Multi Tool
One element that I really liked was the fact that all of the accessories that come with PAX Plus, all work on both the PAX Mini and the PAX 3 too. Making them interchangable for those of us who own more than one device or who have had a previous iteration of PAX and still have some accessories lying about. Now you can put them to use once again.

First Impressions Review of PAX Plus
On first impressions the new look PAX is retains the same iconic, minimilistic design you’ve come to know and love. First of all, it is extremely small at just shy of four inches tall and it feels great in your palm. Moreover it fits perfectly in any pocket. The patented stainless steel finish is sleek and resembles the quality of a high end product like an iPhone or a MacBook.
On the front of the device there are the four iconic petal-shaped LEDs that we have come accustomed to from PAX. While on the rear is the magnetic charging connector for charging your device. Finally at the bottom of the device is the new oven which remains covered by a magnetic lid.
Oven
The oven is noticably bigger with a capacity of nearly 0.5g of flower for longer sessions. As opposed to the old PAX 3 oven that accomodated 0.3g of material. Despite the larger size however it doesn’t take long to heat up, with around just 22 seconds until its ready to use.
One more new feature of the PAX Plus is the 3D oven screen. These new and improved screens have more holes and an improved design to ensure much better airflow than the PAX 3. This means more clouds and better flavour. They also act as a filter to prevent residue creeping up your device, retaining its integrity. It’s also really easy to remove it from the oven with a multi-tool and it makes the device a little easier to clean.

Battery
PAX claim the battery lasts up to two and a half hours which is enough for around 8 to 10 sessions. This will obviously hinge on the mode you select. For example if you use some of the higher temperature modes the battery is likely to last a lot less than that. With that said, there’s always more than enough battery to get you through 2 or 3 heavy sessions.
PAX Plus comes with an 18650 non-removable 3000mAh battery which is slightly smaller than the PAX 3 which had a 3500mAh. This provides an operating temperature of 0°C to 45°C. The perfect temperature to enjoy smooth vapour throughout your sessions without overheating.
To check your current battery life you can shake your device. It will display one pedal for 25% charge, two pedals for 50% and so on and so forth. A red LED indicates the battery is low and it’s time to charge the device. For that, just place it on the magnetic charger and wait for about an hour and a half and it will be fully charged again.
Vape Concentrates
Conveniently if are like us and enjoy vaping concentrates Pax Plus can do this too, with ease. All you have to do is add a small amount to the concentrate insert and slide it into the oven. Say goodbye to your dab rig!

Using the PAX Plus
One cool feature is that the device actually knows when you’re vaping thanks to its lip sensing technology. So it knows when you’re drawing, how hard you’re pulling, the temperature of the air entering the chamber and the temperature of the chamber itself. It uses all this information to deliver the best extract session imaginable.
Of course, your experience with the PAX Plus will vary depending on what settings you choose. Which brings me to the most innovative feature of this vaporizer, the new experience modes. Because with these experience modes, you can easily adjust to any situation with just a few discrete clicks.
Simply press the mouthpiece down for a couple of seconds and then select either stealth, efficiency, flavor or boost mode with short presses. Once you pick your preferred mode, just long press again or simply shake the PAX Plus for a little bit and it will be ready super quickly. So let’s look into each of the experience modes a little bit more in depth.
Stealth Mode
The aptly named stealth mode is perfect for staying under the radar. You can activate stealth mode when you’re in a crowded place and it will visibly reduce vapour, dim the LEDs and minimise vibrations. Even at lower temperatures of 175 to 180 degrees Celsius you are still guaranteed excellent flavour.
It’s simply overall much more discreet, lower temperatures mean smaller clouds and less odor. Paired with the device’s inconspicuous design you can seamlessly blend in. Whether you’re out in public or just want to keep things low-key, switch to one purple petal for stealth mode and stay unnoticed!
Efficiency Mode
Efficiency mode is about getting the most out of your medicine. Whether you’re trying to stretch out your inventory or you’re sharing with the homies, efficiency mode is the way to go. Its key feature is gradually increasing the temperature over time for maximum efficiency.
You start by enjoying the full flavour at lower temperatures and with each puff, you extract more from your herbs. The termperature spectrum begins at 180 degrees Celsius and gradually rises all the way up to 215 degrees.
As you pull on the PAX plus it increases the temperature, cooling down immediately when you pause. With each puff, the base temperature climbs by 2 degrees, ensuring rich vapour with every single pull. When you’re looking to maximise your stash or share, simply select the two teal petals for efficiency mode!
Flavor mode
At Hemptations we’re all about chasing terpenes, which is what attracted us to the PAX range in the first place. If you’re like us flavour mode is going to be your go-to-setting to befit your top-shelf nugs. If you’re after the ultimate taste experience, this mode will likely become your favourite.
Flavour mode operates within mid-range temps between 190 and 205 degrees Celsius. It also maintains a base temperature of 190 degrees, increasing only when you take a sip. Once you’re done, the device immediately cools down. Smart, right?
This method evenly extracts cannabinoids and terpenes evenly out of your herbs guaranteeing delicious session. For the best flavour experience PAX Plus offers, go on and select the three yellow pedals for flavor mode.
Boost mode
Finally, if you’re after something a little more punchy, boost mode is the setting for you. This is the highest setting available and I primarily use it for vaping concentrates or I’m trying to rinse every last drop of vapour out of my oven having already cycled through the other settings. It’s also perfect for those who are transitioning from smoking to vaping.
The idea behind boost mode is to keep the oven hot and ready, so it doesn’t cool down between draws. It operates at a temperatures between 215 and 220 degrees Celsius. At these temps you are guaranteed thick vapour clouds and powerful hits every single time.
This setting is for everyone who needs some seriously punchy vapor. I really only use boost mode if I’m vaping concentrates, but it’s also great you are switching from smoking to vaping. The idea behind this setting is to keep the oven warm and ready to go and not to cool it down while you are not dragging. The temperatures in boost mode are between 215 and 220 degrees Celsius.
Personally I find this one is imperative if you’re using the concentrate insert and it really does shine with any kind of extract. But if you’re someone who needs a quick, potent hit of cannabinoids, boost mode delivers the strongest results. In other words it’s great for herbs too. For the extra punch, select the 4 red petals for boost mode.

Review Tips to get the most from your PAX Plus
Having used the PAX Plus for around 3 months now, here are some tips I’ve learned to maximise your experience with this device. In my opinion the best way to use it is to begin on stealth or efficiency mode and slowly work your way through the modes to extract every ounce of vapour available. Don’t forget to physically mix up the material in the oven half way through to keep things moving.
Filling the PAX Plus
One thing I learned while using the PAX Plus is to grind your herbs well and pack them in to the oven tightly. That way it simply works the best, it’s called the PAX for a reason after all.. I usually use the multi-tool to press the herbs in the oven and that is it. Consider using the half pack oven lid to really pack that oven out, even when using a little less flower.
Haptic Feedback (LEDS)
PAX Plus communicates with you through LEDs. They show you what the device is doing, whether indicating which experience mode you are currently using or displaying the remaining battery life. They also shine purple to show you that the device is heating up.
Another trick I just found out about the Pax Plus is that you can actually dim your LEDs. For this, just hold it like this in front of you and spin it two full rounds towards you and the LEDs will dim down. To reverse this, you just spin it the other way, away from you, and the leds will get brighter. A cool way to keep stealthy even when outside of stealth mode.
Cleaning the PAX Plus
We’ve not had this long so the first clean is always a little easier. All you need to do with this device is remove the mouthpiece, oven lid and 3D screen. Then use the brush to clean the vapor path. And finally use cotton swabs to clean the oven and top of the device. I always find that a bit of isopropyl alcohol helps doing this. Just remember, A little goes a long way, so don’t overdo it and soak your PAX.
What’s the verdict?
Now that we covered all of the above in our PAX Plus review, there is not really much more to say about the device. That’s actually one of my favorite things about this vaporizer. Because it is not only super small and delivers thick and great vapor but it’s also super easy to use.
Overall, the Pax Plus is a sleek, small and very easy to use vaporizer that packs a punch. The experience modes guarantee you a maximum cannabinoid and terpene extraction and a great flavor. And it’s easy to clean and very durable. Moreover it even comes with 10 years manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. For PAX 3 owners its an easy upgrade with no learning curve.
